Leucine aminopeptidase (LAP, EC 3.4.11.1) is a protease that hydrolyzes peptide chains with leucine at the N-terminus and is widely present in tissues such as the liver, kidneys, and pancreas, especially abundant in the liver. LAP decomposes L-leucyl p-nitroanilide to produce p-nitroaniline, which has a maximum absorption peak at 405nm. By measuring the rate of increase in absorbance, the activity of LAP can be calculated.
