Product description
Malate synthase (MS, EC 2.3.3.9) is one of the key enzymes in the glyoxylate cycle, found in bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and germinating plant seeds. MS catalyzes the reaction of acetyl CoA and glyoxylate to produce malate and CoA. The produced CoA is reductive and can react with DTNB to form a yellow substance, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 412nm, from which the activity of MS can be determined. Reaction: acetyl-CoA + glyoxylate + H2O = (S)-malate + CoA
Additional Materials and Equipments Required
Visible spectrophotometer, 1mL glass cuvette (light path 1cm), low-temperature centrifuge, water bath, pipette, mortar and pestle, ice, and distilled water.
