Phosphotransacetylase (PTA, EC 2.3.1.8) is one of the key enzymes related to acetate metabolism. PTA catalyzes the reaction between coenzyme A and acetyl phosphate to produce acetyl-CoA and inorganic phosphate. The increase in inorganic phosphate is measured by the ammonium molybdate method to determine the activity of PTA. Reaction: CoA + acetyl phosphate ⇌ acetyl-CoA + phosphate
