Endo-β-1,4-glucanase, also known as cellobiohydrolase (CBH) (EC 3.2.1.91), is found in bacteria, fungi, and animals and is one of the components of the cellulase system. This enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenyl-β-D-cellobioside to produce p-nitrophenol (PNP), which has a maximum absorption peak at 405nm. The enzyme activity of endo-β-1,4-glucanase can be calculated accordingly.
