L-Galactonolactone dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.316, L-galactose dehydrogenase, GalDH) is one of the important enzymes in the synthesis of ascorbic acid (Vc) in plants. L-Galactonolactone dehydrogenase directly oxidizes L-galactose at the C1 position to produce L-galactono-1,4-lactone, a direct substrate for Vc synthesis, while reducing NAD+ to NADH. This assay kit provides a simple, sensitive, and rapid method of measurement: the NADH produced in the enzymatic process reacts with a specific color developer to produce a colored substance with a maximum absorption peak at 450nm. The GalDH enzyme activity can be calculated by detecting the increase rate at 450nm.
