Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC, EC 4.1.1.17) is a key enzyme in the synthesis of free polyamines in most plants and is related to plant stress physiology. Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) catalyzes the substrate ornithine to produce putrescine, which is derivatized with a derivatization agent. The derivative has a maximum absorption peak at 254nm. The ODC enzyme activity is determined by measuring the change in absorbance at 254nm.
