Phosphoglucomutase (PGI, EC 5.3.1.9) catalyzes the interconversion of fructose-6-phosphate and glucose-6-phosphate, an important intracellular enzyme involved in the glycolytic pathway during respiration. PGI catalyzes fructose-6-phosphate to glucose-6-phosphate, which is then reduced to NADPH by glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase with NADP+. By measuring the increase at 340nm, the activity of PGI can be calculated.
