Soil β-galactosidase (β-GAL, EC 3.2.1.23), also known as β-D-galactoside galactosyltransferase, is involved in the hydrolysis of carbohydrates in soil. This kit provides a simple, sensitive, and rapid detection method. β-GAL decomposes p-nitrophenyl-β-D-galactopyranoside to produce p-nitrophenol (PNP), which has the maximum absorption peak at 405nm. By measuring the rate of increase in absorbance, the activity of β-GAL can be calculated.
