Alkaloids are nitrogen-containing organic compounds found in organisms, mostly in plants, with over three thousand types isolated to date, including nearly a hundred with strong physiological activity widely used in clinical medicine. Alkaloids react with bromophenol green to form a yellow substance with a characteristic absorption peak at 415nm. By detecting the increase at 415nm, the total alkaloid content in the sample can be determined.
