Product description
Urea, also known as carbamide, formerly known as blood urea nitrogen (BUN), is the main nitrogen-containing product of protein metabolism in mammals and some fish. It is also the nitrogen fertilizer with the highest nitrogen content currently available. This assay kit utilizes the hydrolysis of urea by urease to produce ammonium ions and carbon dioxide. The ammonium ions react with a phenolic color reagent to form a blue substance in an alkaline medium, and the amount of this substance is directly proportional to the urea content. By measuring the content of the colored substance at 625nm, the urea nitrogen content can be determined.
